Getting to Know Our Greenways and Parks Part 1: Lake Corriher Wilderness Area

Maureen Roberge

In a momentum to get fit, I have made it my mission to get to know the greenways and parks in our area. I want to share with you these great places because they are right in our backyard and we should enjoy them.

Lake Corriher Wilderness Area

My first one for this series is Lake Corriher Wilderness Area in China Grove or the Town of Landis. What a gem – right across from the YMCA this beautiful park hosts a great spot for fishing and a great 5k walking trail.

The terrain starts pretty flat on gravel and then you quickly get under the canopy through winding and twisting pathways that go up and down and level out and the terrain becomes more covered in roots. So watch your step and pick up your feet – a gratifying little workout with an elevation gain of 144 ft.

There are public restrooms nearby and a quiet piece of our world overall.

Hope you take a moment to check it out sometime. Minutes from Mooresville and Salisbury.

Stay tuned for our next area soon!
