The Latta Plantation Nature Preserve along the eastern shore of Mountain Island Lake forms a peninsula that extends into the lake. The 1,460 acres offer countless opportunities for outdoor activities including paddling on Mountain Island Lake and Gar Creek, fishing, picnicking, and miles of scenic trails with views of the lake, forests, and streams.
The preserve is home to the historic Latta Plantation, a cotton plantation circa 1800 and living history farm, as well as the Carolina Raptor Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to the exploration and rehabilitation of birds of prey with inspiring exhibits and engaging programs.
